The Huangdi Neijing says: “Therefore, keep the mind idle and desire low; keep the heart calm and unafraid; let the body work without fatigue; let the qi flow smoothly; each follows its own wish, and all get what they desire.” The best way to nurture health is to return to ordinary life: eat when you’re hungry, sleep when you’re tired, rest when you’re exhausted, do what your heart truly wants, and express emotions in a healthy way. When the spleen and stomach are weak, try to avoid raw and cold foods—such as iced drinks, sashimi, and cold salads—as well as greasy, spicy, or sweet‑rich items like cakes and milk tea, which burden digestion. Spend more time outdoors in nature, engage in gentle exercise, qigong, or simple abdominal massage; these are all excellent ways to restore balance.

Interview in Southern Weekly | Scholar Xue Renming: Education Is About Letting Everyone Stay in Their Own “Place” (Full Version)

One day my father was eating and, noticing my mother wasn’t there, said to me, “Is this how you treat your mom?” I lowered my head, and the typical teenage rebellion vanished completely. Looking back now, why did that single sentence carry so much weight? Why don’t many parents today have that authority? It’s because my father spoke from his role as a father—his word was law to me. Nowadays many parents are exhausted, claiming they want to be friends with their children and communicate openly, yet they no longer act like fathers, nor do mothers act like mothers, and the children aren’t truly happy. What they truly cherish is that each person remains in their proper “place.”

The Greater the Life’s Frustration, the Greater the Awakening

“Life’s frustration” is considered a core indicator of wisdom because possessing such frustration—especially profound frustration—is rare, belonging to rare people and rare circumstances. Most people are clouded by karmic habits; they cannot even see themselves clearly, let alone their temperament, let alone life itself. Those who can bear it are usually people with shallow karma and light habits, so the restless impulses that arise from life itself become visible and turn into a powerful driving force. Their temperament, sense of self, and sharp intelligence stem from this, though it is not the deepest root.

Regardless of Salary, National Affairs Are Linked to Family Affairs

It’s not necessary to demand that everyone constantly follow every national issue. In ordinary days, doing your job well and living your life properly also supports the country. However, when it comes to national or ethnic imperatives, or matters of great right and wrong, there is no room for “clever jokes” or “showy posturing.” As a decent Chinese citizen and a proud descendant of Yan and Huang, each of us should stand up against any external provocation and stand together with the nation—this is an unavoidable duty and an undeniable obligation.
